Background Investigations
Our background investigations are completed in a timely manner by highly experienced and professional investigators with extensive law enforcement experience.
Background investigations are conducted following POST guidelines to ensure a personal, professional and thorough assessment of an applicant’s moral character, ability to handle stress and adversity, work habits, interpersonal skills, judgment and decision making.
We also conduct executive backgrounds and internal affairs investigations for public safety agencies.
Together, our team of investigators have worked for multiple agencies in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, and throughout the State of California.

John Bledsoe
John is a retired Police Lieutenant who served 22 of his 34 years of law enforcement service at the San Luis Obispo Police Department. He also served at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Irvine Police Department prior to joining SLO PD. John managed and supervised the Detective Bureau, Special Enforcement Team and Records Division. John was responsible for reviewing and approving all departmental background investigations and conducing the Internal Affairs Investigations.
John’s experience in all areas of investigations, as well as background and Internal Affairs Investigations is extensive. John is well educated with the POST hiring requirements and guidelines, and peace officer’s rights as covered under the Peace Officer Bill of Rights (POBR).
John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Fresno State University, and has completed both the Supervisors Leadership Institute and POST Management courses.

Chris Staley
Chris is a retired Police Captain who served at San Luis Obispo Police Department for 24 years. As Captain, he oversaw all police patrol operations, Budgeting, Communications Center, Records Division, Training and Hiring and Internal Affairs Investigations.
As a Police Lieutenant Chris served as watch commander and as the Administrative Lieutenant. He was responsible for all Internal Affairs Investigations.
As a sergeant, Chris conducted numerous background investigations, and served as a Crimes Against Person Investigator responsible for homicide, sexual assault, robbery and other crime investigations. He also served as department intelligence officer gathering intelligence data and liasoning with local FBI office.
Chris has extensive experience investigative experience, especially in Internal Affairs and Backgrounds, as well as knowledge of the Peace Officer Bill of Rights. (POBR)
Chris has a Bachelors Degree from Columbia College in Administration of Justice. Chris served in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years prior to his police service.
